Sustainability and material optimization have emerged as the biggest trends in packaging. Sustainability is important in packaging as the product is very close to the consumer and is usually assumed as a waste. Therefore Uflex has identified four key areas for sustainability:
·         Energy conservation by using eco-friendly technologies- for instance the intercept technology which combines long term, contamination-free corrosion control with ESD protection. It is clean, green, reusable and recyclable.
·         Reduction in carbon based resources- Carbon footprint is a measure of the impact of our activities have on the environment and in particular climate change. It relates to the amount of greenhouse gases produced by burning fossil fuels for electricity, heating and transportation. Uflex emphasises on reducing carbon footprint by focussing on biodegradable packaging materials which break down relatively quickly and cleanly, by cutting the use of materials made from fossil fuels; primarily plastics and by adopting the advanced flexographic printing technique which provides environmental benefits through energy efficiency and reduced material consumption.
·         Wastage minimization and reuse of all process waste- using fizzy water bottles and similar plastic packages a unique material is produced which is again further used for packaging. The motto of Uflex is tomorrow’s packaging using today’s waste.
·         Recycling post-consumer waste- Uflex believes that wherever possible all flexible packaging should be re-cycled in the same industry.

The re- cycling and re-usability techniques of Uflex include the following:
Packaging the Natural way- Green pet- Made from PTA and GREEN MEG resin, wherein PTA is manufactured by Oxidation of p-xylene while GREEN MEG is manufactured from Ethanol obtained from Agro based source. This film does not contain any MEG which is conventionally made through the crude oil route. Green MEG is made from renewable source, and GREEN PET film contains 30% of GREEN MEG. The film is FDA approved and adheres to EC Food Compliance Guidelines, making it absolutely safe for food contact, at the same time, maintaining the same qualities as that of natural PET film made from MEG which is derived from crude oil, with environment friendly characteristics.
rPET-Made from POST CONSUMER WASTE RECYCLED (PCR) RESIN, which refers to material previously used by consumers and again recycled to use in a new product. rPET contains up to 30% of PCR resin obtained by tertiary chemical glucoses route. rPET is US FDA approved, EU compliant and are safe for food contact. They offer the same performance properties as standard PET films while being environment friendly, and are available in all thicknesses and widths. The re- cycling and re-usability techniques of Uflex include the following:
